KERRVILLE, Texas - The Austin College softball team dropped its SCAC doubleheader at Schreiner University on Saturday, falling 10-2 in game one before being handed a 9-6 defeat in game two.

The 'Roos grabbed a 2-0 lead in the opening game of the twinbill, with AD Smith singling home a run and Lyndsey Busch scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the second. The Mountaineers got one run back in the third to cut it to a 2-1 game, but Schreiner would take control in the fourth, erupting for nine runs in the frame to make it a 10-2 contest. Austin College committed three errors in the inning to open the door for the Mountaineers to surge ahead, and that's how things would finish after five innings of action.

Smith was credited with the loss, surrendering five unearned runs in 0.2 innings of work. Brooklynn Cook went 2-for-3 to pace the 'Roos offensively, while Malorie Solis went 3-for-3 to lead Schreiner.

Austin College got out to a big lead early in game two, plating five runs in the top of the first to take a commanding early advantage. Kaitlyn Barrett singled home a run to get things started, and Faith Butler drew a bases loaded walk to make it 2-0. Tessa Contreras brought home three runs with a base hit, with an error enabling extra runs to cross on the play to make it a 5-0 game. Schreiner got one run back in the bottom of the inning and added another in the second to make it 5-2 before the 'Roos plated one more run when Carrie Johnson drew a walk with the bases full to make it 6-2.

Schreiner came all the way back in the bottom of the fourth with four runs to square things up, and the Mountaineers would go on top with three runs in the fifth to make it a 9-6 game. Neither team would score again over the final two innings, with Trysten Liesman picking up the victory for Schreiner after giving up no runs on five hits in 4.1 innings in relief. Johnson took the loss for the 'Roos, surrendering three runs on five hits in 2.2 innings of action. Contreras finished 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Hailey Pair led Schreiner with a 2-for-3 performance with seven RBI, including a grand slam and a three-run double.
