Austin College Softball Sweeps Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. - The Austin College softball team picked up a pair of road victories on Tuesday, topping Hendrix 10-5 in game one before getting an 11-1 win via the run-rule in game two. The 'Roos have won three of their last four, and are now 3-5 on the year.

Hendrix took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one, with Austin College getting on the board in the second on an RBI single from Joli Kirkpatrick. Carrie Johnson doubled home the tying run in the third and an error opened the door for two more runs in the inning to put Austin College ahead 4-2, and the 'Roos added three more runs in the fourth to make it a 7-2 game. Chyrsi Hemby and Johnson each drove in a run during the inning.

The Warriors added a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Allie Jeter and Keiten Day each drove in runs to push the margin to 10-3 in the fifth. Hendrix got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth, but those would be the final runs of the game. Jeter picked up the win for Austin College, giving up five runs - four earned - on six hits in 4.1 innings of work. Hemby went 3-for-3, and Johnson went 2-for-3 to lead the 'Roos on offense.

In game two, the game was scoreless through the first two and a half innings before Hendrix got a run in the bottom of the third to make it a 1-0 game. That remained the score until the top of the fifth, when the 'Roos exploded for 11 runs in the frame. Day got the scoring started when she reached on an error, enabling a run to come home, and Kaitlyn Barrett doubled home two more runs. Another error brought Barrett home, and Hemby drove in two more runs with a base hit.

Kirkpatrick drew a walk with the bases loaded to make it 7-1, and Day reached on another error in her second plate appearance of the inning, allowing another run to come home. Barrett and Kalee Rush each drove in a run, and Elizabeth Preston brought home the game's final run with a sacrifice fly. Barrett went 2-for-3 with three RBI to lead the 'Roos at the plate, while Hailie Swiatkowski earned the victory, giving up one run on six hits in a complete game performance.
