GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Austin College softball team fell in each of its three road games at Southwestern over the weekend, dropping the series opener 10-2 before falling by scores of 6-2 and 6-3 on Saturday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 8-27 overall and 3-15 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Southwestern erupted for six runs in the first inning of Friday's series opener and Austin College was unable to mount a comeback, getting two runs in the third on an RBI double from Chyrsi Hemby and a run-scoring single from Carrie Johnson to cut it to 6-2 before the Pirates plated four runs in the fifth to end the game at 10-2. Johnson took the loss in the circle, surrendering six runs on three hits with three walks in 0.2 innings of work.

The 'Roos were limited to four hits in the game, with Johnson going 2-for-2 while Hemby and Lizzy Preston each collected a hit.

In game two of the series, Austin College got out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on a two-run single by Hailie Swiatkowski, and that remained the score until the bottom of the fifth. The Pirates would even things up with a pair of runs in that inning and then push four runs across in the bottom of the sixth, and Austin College couldn't get the bats going in the seventh to square things up.

Swiatkowski took the loss, going the distance while surrendering six runs on nine hits with four walks and a pair of strikeouts. Joli Kirkpatrick went 2-for-4 and scored a run, and six other 'Roos collected one hit each.

The Pirates handed the 'Roos a walk-off defeat in the final game of the series, with the game scoreless until an error opened the door for a Southwestern run to make it 1-0 after five innings. Avery Atencio knocked home a run to even things up in the seventh and Calleigh King put the 'Roos on top later in the inning, but in the bottom of the seventh the Pirates plated two runs to complete the weekend sweep.

Atencio went 2-for-3 to pace the 'Roos at the plate, while Johnson, Kirkpatrick, and Karsen Lampkin each had one hit in the defeat. Lampkin was strong in the circle, surrendering two runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings of work, but wound up with no decision in the game. Aubri Dayle Smith was credited with the defeat in an inning of relief work.
