'Roo Softball Drops Road Series at Trinity

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Austin College softball team fell in each of its three games this weekend at Trinity University, dropping an 8-0 game on Friday before falling by scores of 5-1 and 12-1 on Saturday. The 'Roos are now 8-24 overall and 3-12 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

In game one on Friday, Trinity plated four runs in the opening frame and never looked back, as Austin College was unable to generate any runs despite seven hits in the game. The 'Roos committed five errors in the loss, leading to just four of Trinity's eight runs being earned. The Tigers scored a run in the third and another in the fourth, before plating two in the fifth to end the game at 8-0.

Hailie Swiatkowski took the loss, giving up six runs - only two earned - on six hits in 4.0 innings of work. Lizzy Preston, Carrie Johnson, and Joli Kirkpatrick each had a pair of hits, as Austin College left eight runners on base in the loss.

Austin College struck first in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, with Kirkpatrick knocking home a run in the top of the first. Trinity answered back quickly, getting a three-run homer in the bottom half of the inning to make it 3-1 and they'd maintain the lead from there. The Tigers tacked on two more runs in the fifth to make it a 5-1 final. Preston went 2-for-3 at the dish as the 'Roos were limited to five hits, while Johnson went the distance in the circle to absorb the loss. Johnson gave up five runs on nine hits in the game.

The 'Roos once again scored first in the series finale on Friday afternoon, with Chyrsi Hemby singling home a run in the top of the first, but Trinity evened things up in the bottom half of the inning. The Tigers then took advantage of defensive miscues in the second to explode for nine runs in the frame, going on top 10-1 and coasting from there. Aubri Dayle Smith took the loss, giving up seven runs - only one earned - on four hits in 1.1 innings of work, and only one of Trinity's 12 runs was earned in the game as Austin College committed six errors. Trinity held Austin College to three hits, with Hemby, Karsen Lampkin, and Alice Maisonet each reaching base once.
