'Roos Get Another Walk-Off Victory

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team completed their weekend sweep of Centenary College on Sunday, getting their third walk-off win in three games with a 12-11 victory over the Ladies. The 'Roos are now 6-10 overall and 3-0 in SCAC play.

Austin College committed eight errors in the game but got their bats working on the way to the win, surrendering four unearned runs in the first inning to fall in an early hole before surging ahead over the next few innings. Lauren Orozco blasted a two run homer in the bottom of the first and added a three run shot in the third to make it a 5-4 game, and another run would come home in the third to make it 6-4. 

Lizzy Preston led off the fourth with a solo homer to make it 7-4, and Austin College tacked on three more runs in the frame to go on top 10-4. Carrie Johnson, Calleigh King, and Lindsay Busch each drove in a run in the fourth. Centenary plated five runs in the fifth to cut it to a 10-9 game, and the Ladies would take an 11-10 lead in the top of the seventh. Preston led off the bottom half of the inning with a single to get things going for Austin College, and would come around to score on a sacrifice fly by Hailie Swiatkowski to square things up at 11 runs apiece. Chyrsi Hemby followed up with a sacrifice fly of her own, scoring Orozco to make it a 12-11 final.

Preston went 5-for-5 in the game, scoring four runs, and Orozco finished 3-for-4 with five RBI and four runs scored. Johnson added a 3-for-4 performance at the dish, while Alice Maisonet picked up the win in relief, giving up two unearned runs in 2.0 innings of work.
