'Roos Get Two Walk-Off Wins

'Roos Get Two Walk-Off Wins

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team went to extra innings twice against visiting Centenary on Saturday, and both times the 'Roos got walk-off wins in the bottom of the ninth, winning 4-3 in game one and 7-6 in game two. The 'Roos are now 5-10 overall and 2-0 in SCAC play.

Centenary jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first in game one, and the margin grew to 3-0 in the third. Carrie Johnson drove in a run in the bottom of the fourth to get Austin College on the board, and Lauren Orozco launched a solo homer in the fifth to cut it to a 3-2 game. An error in that same inning brought home another run, evening things up at three runs apiece. That's how things would stand after eight innings, and in the bottom of the ninth, Orozco singled to left center to bring home Alice Maisonet for the victory.

Hailie Swiatkowski went the distance for Austin College to get the win, surrendering three runs on nine hits in 9.0 innings of work. Orozco finished the game going 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the 'Roos offensively.

In game two, Centenary got on the board in the top of the first again to make it 1-0, but Lizzy Preston tripled and then came home on an error to even things up in the bottom half of the inning. Johnson drove in a run and another came home on an error in the third to make it a 3-1 lead for the 'Roos, but Centenary tied things up in the fifth and that's how things would stand heading into the ninth.

Centenary took advantage of a pair of 'Roo errors in the top of the ninth to go on top 6-3, but Johnson got another RBI to get things started for Austin College in the bottom of the inning. Swiatkowski followed with an RBI single to make it 6-5, and Johnson scored on an RBI by Lindsay Busch. Swiatkowski would come home to give the 'Roos the win on an RBI double to right center by Calleigh King.

King got the victory for Austin College, giving up three runs on five hits in 4.2 innings of relief work, and also went 2-for-3 at the dish. Preston had two triples and finished 3-for-5, and Swiatkowski went 3-for-5 in the win.

Austin College will go for the series sweep on Sunday, as they host the Ladies for a single game at 12:00 p.m.
