'Roos Drop Two to Millsaps

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team dropped both halves of its home-opening doubleheader against Millsaps College on Friday, falling 9-1 in game one and 13-6 in game two. The 'Roos are now 0-4 on the year.

Millsaps got on the board first in game one, plating a run in the top of the first before Austin College answered in the bottom of the inning when Hailie Swiatkowski scored on a bases loaded walk. However, that would be the last run of the game for Austin College as Millsaps scored three in the second and three more in the third to make it 7-1, and the Majors would plate one run in the fourth and another in the fifth to make it a 9-1 final.

Austin College was limited to one hit in the game, coming off the bat of Chyrsi Hemby. Calleigh King took the loss in the circle, surrendering five runs - only two earned - on two hits with five walks and a pair of strikeouts in 2.0 innings of work.

The Majors pushed a run across in the top of the first of game two to once again take a 1-0 lead, but Austin College plated three in the bottom half of the inning to grab the lead. Hemby knocked in two runs in the inning, and Avery Atencio brought home the third. However, Millsaps answered with four runs in the second and five more in the third to surge ahead 10-3, and the lead grew to 11-3 in the top of the fifth before Austin College got three runs back in the bottom of the inning, two of which came on an RBI single by Karsen Lampkin

Millsaps would tack on two more runs in the sixth to make it 13-6, though, and that's how things woudl finish. Hemby went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Swiatkowski took the loss after giving up 10 runs - six earned - on nine hits in 3.0 innings.
