'Roo Softball Falls in Season Finale

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team fell 12-1 in its final game of the season on Sunday afternoon at Old Settlers Park, as Southwestern University broke open a tie game in the final innings to hand the 'Roos the defeat. Austin College finishes the season with a 2-23 record.

It was a pitchers' duel through the first five innings, as the team's took a 1-1 tie into the sixth. Southwestern got on the board in the top of the third on an RBI double by Kinly McCaffrey, but Austin College squared things up in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI base hit by Sarah Ramirez. The Pirates started to pull away in the top of the sixth, when Katelyn Francis and Kathryn Dull hit back-to-back homers to break the tie, and two more runs came across in the inning to make it 5-1 heading into the seventh.

The Pirates really broke things open in the top of the seventh, plating seven runs in the inning capped off by a grand slam from McCaffrey to push it to a 12-1 margin, and Austin College was unable to get a rally started in the team's final at-bat. Hannah Richendollar took the loss in the circle for Austin College, giving up three runs on six hits in 5.0 innings of work with three strikeouts. Austin College was limited to four hits in the game, with Ramirez, Richendollar, Jaide Vidal, and Kalee Rush each picking up a single.
