'Roo Softball Swept by Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas - The Austin College softball team dropped both halves of its doubleheader at Schreiner University on Saturday, falling 15-2 in game one before ending up on the wrong side of a 7-3 decision in game two. The 'Roos are now 2-17 overall and 1-13 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Austin College jumped out to an early lead in game one as Lindsay Busch roped a two-run single that scored Ashley Elliott and Sarah Ramirez, but Schreiner exploded for 10 runs in the bottom half of the inning to go on top 10-2 and never looked back. After a scoreless second inning, the Mountaineers tacked on four more runs in the third to make it 14-2, and another run came across in the fourth to make it a 15-2 final after five innings.

Atencio went 2-for-3 at the dish to lead the 'Roos, while Elliott took the loss in the circle, surrendering five runs on three hits in 0.1 innings of work.

Game two saw the Mountaineers take a quick 2-0 lead after the first inning, and the score remained 2-0 until the fourth when Elliott came home on an error and Elizabeth Preston scored on a sacrifice bunt by Andrea Saucedo to even the game at 2-2. However, Schreiner would quickly break the tie, pushing five runs across in the bottom of the inning to make it a 7-2 game, and Austin College was unable to mount a comeback down the stretch. Austin College would tack on one more run on an RBI single by Preston, but that's as close as things would get.

Preston and Hannah Richendollar each had two hits to lead the 'Roos at the dish, while Richendollar absorbed the loss, giving up seven runs on 10 hits in 3.2 innings of work.
