'Roos Fall Twice to UT-Dallas

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team fell twice to visiting UT-Dallas on Tuesday evening, dropping game one 17-7 and game two 14-7 at Old Settlers Park. The 'Roos are now 2-14 overall with the two defeats.

The Comets jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after the first half inning of game one, but Austin College got one back with an RBI from Ashley Elliott to make it a 3-1 game heading into the second. Texas-Dallas got two more runs in the second, and the Comets exploded for nine runs in the third to push it to a 14-1 game. Avery Atencio got the 'Roos back on the board with two RBI triple and Karsen Lampkin added an RBI base hit in the bottom of the third to cut it to a 14-4 game, but the Comets got all three runs back in the fourth to make it a 17-4 contest.

Atencio drove in another run in the fifth and Sarah Ramirez knocked in two more in the fifth to make it 17-7, but that's how things would end. Ramirez went 3-for-4 to lead the 'Roos at the dish, while Elliott, Atencio, Lampkin, and Kalee Rush each had two hits. Lampkin took the loss in the circle, surrendering seven runs - four earned - on three hits in 2.0 innings of work.

UTD grabbed a quick 1-0 lead in game two, but Austin College struck back with three runs in the bottom of the first to make it a 3-1 game. Elizabeth Preston came home on an error to open things up, and Lampkin and Rush each drove in a run in the frame. After another run came across for UTD to cut it to a 3-2 game, Taylor Levan brought home another run and Lindsay Busch added an RBI to give Austin College a 5-2 lead. Preston would belt a solo homer in the fourth to make it 6-2, but in the fifth inning the Comets came roaring back with four runs to square things up, and that's how things would stand heading into the sixth.

Preston would wind up scoring in the bottom of the sixth to give the 'Roos a 7-6 lead, stealing third and then advancing home on an error. However, the Comets evened things up early in the top of the seventh, and Nicole Peters blasted a grand slam to make it an 11-7 game. The Comets would tack on three more runs, and Austin College was unable to answer in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 14-7 final.

Elliott took the loss in relief for Austin College, giving up eight runs - six earned - on eight hits in 2.0 innings of work. Preston went 2-for-4 and scored four runs, and Levan and Rush each had a pair of hits in the loss.
