Trinity Takes Two from 'Roo Softball

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team dropped a pair of games to visiting Trinity University on Friday afternoon at Old Settlers Park, falling 8-7 in game one and 9-0 in the second half of the twinbill. The 'Roos are now 2-11 overall and 1-9 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Austin College was in control for most of the way through game one, but four runs in the top of the seventh lifted the Tigers past the 'Roos. Elizabeth Preston got the scoring started for the 'Roos with a solo home run in the second, and Karsen Lampkin drove in a run to make it 2-0. Errors in the third and fifth allowed Trinity to even things up with a run in each inning, but the 'Roos got three runs back in the bottom of the fifth, including an RBI single from Ashley Elliott, to go on top 5-2.

The Tigers plated two more to pull within a run at 5-4 in the sixth, but Jaide Vidal had an RBI triple and then came home on a Sarah Ramirez single to make it 7-4 heading into the seventh. That's when Trinity's Jordyn Williams belted a three-run homer to tie the game and an error led to the go-ahead run for the Tigers, and that's how things would end.

Hannah Richendollar took the loss in relief for the 'Roos, surrendering four runs - three earned - on three hits in a third of an inning. Ramirez went 3-for-4 to pace the 'Roos, and Vidal, Preston, and Elliott each had two hits.

The Tigers got going early in game two, with three home runs in the top of the first to go on top 4-0, and an RBI single by Williams made it 5-0 after two. Cat Patterson hit another homer for the Tigers in the third to make it 6-0, and an error opened the door to two more runs, making it 8-0 after three complete innings. Trinity would tack on one more run in the fourth to make it 9-0, and that's where things would end after five innings of action.

The 'Roos were limited to one hit in the loss, with Vidal going 1-for-2 at the plate with a stolen base. Taylor Levan took the loss after giving up three runs on three hits in a third of an inning. Patterson got the win for Trinity, while Williams led the Tigers with a 2-for-3 performance, a homer, and three RBI.

The 'Roos and Tigers will wrap up their weekend series on Saturday morning, when they square off at 11:00 a.m. for a single game.
