TLU Takes Series Finale From 'Roos

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team fell in the third and final game of its weekend series against No. 4-ranked Texas Lutheran on Saturday, with the Bulldogs handing the 'Roos an 18-1 defeat at Old Settlers Park. The 'Roos are now 2-9 overall on the year and 1-7 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the top of the first, with all five runs coming after the 'Roos had recorded two outs in the frame. Bailey Hudgeons belted a grand slam to highlight the inning for TLU, and the Bulldogs would go on to push five more runs across in the second to make it a 10-0 game. The lead grew to 13-0 in the third before Austin College was able to get on the board, with Jaide Vidal singling and then advancing to third on a stolen base and an error, ultimately coming home on a grounder by Kalee Rush.

Texas Lutheran plated four more in the fourth to make it 17-1, and one more run would come home in the fifth to make it an 18-1 final. Hudgeons knocked in six runs for the Bulldogs, while Skylar Oullette had three hits. Vidal and Elizabeth Preston recorded a hit apiece for Austin College, while Karsen Lampkin took the loss after giving up eight runs on seven hits in 1.0 innings of work.
