'Roos Drop Two to No. 4 Texas Lutheran

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team fell in both halves of its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against No. 4-ranked Texas Lutheran on Friday evening, dropping the first game 11-0 before falling 8-4 in the second game of the evening. The 'Roos are now 2-8 overall on the year.

Texas Lutheran jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening frame in game one and pushed six runs across in the third to blow things open and Austin College was unable to get much going offensively, while TLU plated one more in the fourth to make it an 11-0 final. The 'Roos were limited to two hits in the game, highlighted by a double from Ashley Elliott. Texas Lutheran had three players record three hits in the game, while pitcher Ashlyn Strother went the distance while striking out 10 batters. Hannah Richendollar took the loss for Austin College, surrendering eight runs on eight hits in 2.1 innings of work.

The Bulldogs once again took an early lead in game two, plating a pair in the top of the first, but Austin College grabbed a 4-2 lead in the bottom half of the inning thanks to an RBI double from Elizabeth Preston, a two-run base hit by Elliott, and a run-scoring sacrifice bunt from Avery Atencio. The lead would be short-lived, however, as TLU pushed three runs across in the second to make it 5-4, and two more runs came home in the third to make it 7-4. One more run came home in the fifth for the Bulldogs to make it an 8-4 game, and that's how things would stand the rest of the way.

Alice Maisonet took the loss for Austin College, giving up eight runs - only four earned - in a complete game effort. Five different 'Roos notched a hit in the game, with Elliott finished 1-for-2 with two RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base to lead the way. Sydney Oullette got the win in relief for TLU, giving up no runs on two hits with five strikeouts in 6.2 innings of action.

Austin College and Texas Lutheran will wrap up their weekend series on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Old Settlers Park.
