McMurry Takes Two From 'Roo Softball

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team fell in both halves of its non-conference doubleheader against McMurry University on Wednesday, falling 9-2 in game one before dropping a 9-4 decision in game two. The 'Roos are now 3-19 overall on the year.

McMurry got on the board in the top of the first in game one thanks to a two-run homer by Kelsey Ahart, but the 'Roos got one run back in the bottom of the inning on a double steal that brought Caitlin Nagy home. The War Hawks put two runs across the plate in the second to make it 4-1, and Ashley Elliott singled in a run in the bottom of the second to keep things close at 4-2. However, McMurry scored once in the third and again in the fourth, and an error brought another run home in the sixth to make it 7-2. Ahart belted another two-run homer in the sixth to push it to a 9-2 game.

Nagy finished the game going 2-for-4 with two doubles to lead the 'Roos at the plate, while Reina Serrano absorbed the loss after giving up five runs - three earned - on seven hits in 3.0 innings of work. Only three of the nine runs scored by the War Hawks were earned.

Game two saw McMurry take a 1-0 lead on a leadoff homer by Savannah Flinn, and the margin grew to 2-0 in the second. Aubri Dayle Smith hit a two-run double in the fourth to even things up, but Ahart hit her third two-run homer of the doubleheader in the fifth to push it to a 4-2 game with McMurry on top. Jaide Vidal and Nagy each came home in the bottom half of the inning to square things up, but a sacrifice fly in the sixth put McMurry up 5-4 and they wouldn't look back. The War Hawks added four runs in the seventh to make it a 9-4 final.

Nagy and Mari Prazak each had a pair of hits for Austin College, while Hannah Richendollar took the loss after giving up five runs - four earned - on four hits in 1.2 innings of work in relief.
