'Roos Drop Pair to Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas - The Austin College softball team took a pair of losses at Schreiner University on Saturday, falling 24-6 in game one and 8-0 in game two to close out the weekend series. The 'Roos are now 0-23 overall and 0-12 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The 'Roos grabbed a 1-0 lead on an Emma Martinez RBI single in the top of the first in game one, but the Mountaineers exploded for 12 runs in the bottom half of the inning to take full control. Three runs came across for Austin College in the top of the second, with Mari Prazak knocking in one run and Ashley Elliott singling home two more, but Schreiner countered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning and four more in the third to make it a 20-4 game. The margin grew to 24-4 after four innings before Martinez and Taylor Groover both drove in a run in the fifth to make it a 24-6 final.

Jordan Proctor took the loss for the 'Roos, surrendering 12 runs on eight hits with three walks in 0.2 innings of work. Martinez and Elliott each went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs to pace Austin College offensively.

Schreiner took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first in game two and added three runs in the second inning to establish an early four-run cushion, and Austin College was unable to find any offense as Schreiner's Kaylee Culpepper tossed a no-hitter in the 8-0, six inning decision. The Mountaineers scored twice in the fourth and two more times in the sixth to make the score final, as Elliott absorbed the loss for Austin College, allowing six runs - five earned - on three hits with three walks in 4.0 innings of action.
