Schreiner Takes Two from 'Roos

KERRVILLE, Texas - The Austin College softball team dropped both halves of its doubleheader on Friday, falling 7-6 in game one and 15-0 in game two at Schreiner University. The 'Roos are 0-21 overall and 0-10 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the two defeats.

In game one, the 'Roos jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first after an RBI double by Mari Prazak, and Cassidy McDaris knocked in two runs following a pair of errors by the Mountaineers. Schreiner would get two runs back in the bottom half of the inning, and go ahead 5-3 following a three-run second. That remained the score until the top of the seventh, when Ashley Elliott drove in a run and another error opened the door for Elliott and Prazak to score and put Austin College ahead 6-5. However, an error by the 'Roos in the bottom of the seventh enabled two runs to come around for Schreiner, resulting in a walk-off 7-6 win for the Mountaineers.

The 'Roos racked up 12 hits in the game, with Prazak, Elliott, Jaide Vidal, Emma Martinez, and Ashley Mayorga each going 2-for-4 at the plate. Jordan Proctor went 6.2 innings in the circle to take the loss, surrendering seven runs - four earned - on eight hits.

Game two saw Schreiner take a 1-0 lead after the first and tack on three more runs in the second to make it 4-0, and the Mountaineers erupted for 11 runs in the bottom of the third to make it a 15-0 game. Austin College could find no answers at the plate, mustering just one hit as Schreiner completed the five-inning victory. Taylor Groover had the lone hit for Austin College, and also took the loss after giving up four runs on two hits with five walks in 2.1 innings of work.
