'Roo Softball Falls at Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas - The Austin College softball team dropped both halves of its doubleheader on Friday at Schreiner, falling 12-4 in game one and 5-3 in game two. The 'Roos fell to 4-24 overall and 1-13 in SCAC play with the pair of losses.

In game one, Austin College fell behind 1-0 after the first but scored twice in the third to take a one run lead, with Ashley Mayorga bringing home a pair of runs in the inning. However, the lead would be short-lived, as Schreiner put three runs across in the bottom of the inning to go ahead 4-2. Austin College would get two runs back and square things at 4-4 in the fourth, with Jordon Proctor picking up and RBI single, but the Mountaineers responded with two runs in the same inning, four in the fifth, and two more in the sixth to end the game 12-4 via the 8-run rule.

Kat Wright took the loss, going the distance in the circle and giving up 12 runs (nine earned) on 10 hits. Proctor led the way at the dish, going 2-for-3.

Austin College jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first in game two, with Cassidy McDaris bringing home the second run on a sacrifice fly after the 'Roos had already scored once on an error. The score remained 2-0 until the fourth, when Schreiner tied things up. Austin College jumped back on top with an RBI single by McDaris in the fifth but the Mountaineers plated three runs in the bottom half of that inning to go on top 5-3, and that's how things would stay.

Tori Herrera absorbed the loss, surrendering five runs (three earned) on seven hits in a complete game performance. McDaris went 2-for-4 as the 'Roos wwere limited to five hits in the game.
