SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College softball team dropped its first game of the night against visiting Centenary College 8-4 but bounced back for a 5-1 win in game two, bringing the team's record to 14-24 overall and 4-18 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

In the first game, the Ladies jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first with Wendy Gillet smacking a two-run homer to highlight the inning for Centenary, and the lead grew to 5-0 in the third. Kylee Fowler hit a run scoring double in the fourth, and an error brought home another run to make it a 5-2 game before the Ladies plated three runs in the sixth to make it 8-2.

Austin College got two runs back in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI double from Chelsea Easley and a run scoring single from Jaylin Clevenger, but that's as close as things would get. Tori Herrera took the loss for Austin College, surrendering eight runs – five earned – in a complete game performance with five strikeouts. Raquel Vara went 3-for-4 at the plate to pace the 'Roos. 

Centenary again took an early lead with a run coming across in the top of the first in game two, but that would be the only run the Ladies would get in the nightcap. An error opened the door for the first run of the game for Austin College, and an RBI single by Clevenger put the 'Roos ahead 2-1 after two innings. 

Delaney England delivered a two-run double and Kierra Gaither knocked in another run as part of a three run fourth as Austin College went on top 5-1, and that's how things would remain. Herrera picked up the victory, again tossing a complete game while allowing just one run on three hits with four strikeouts. 

Herrera's second strikeout of the game broke her own program record for strikeouts in a season, which had previously been set at 116. She now has 118 heading into tomorrow's final regular season doubleheader against Centenary. 

England and Vara each had two hits to pace Austin College in game two. First pitch is currently scheduled for 1:00 p.m. for tomorrow's doubleheader, though game time is subject to change based on the current threat of weather in North Texas.
