Softball Splits with SUNY Potsdam and Wesleyan

The Austin College softball team continued its spring break trip in Florida with a win over SUNY Potsdam and a loss to Wesleyan University on Tuesday. The 'Roos are now 9-9 overall this season as they head into their final two spring break games on Wednesday.

Against Potsdam, the 'Roos got a strong pitching performance from Tori Herrera, who tossed a complete game and struck out eight batters while surrendering just one unearned run on seven hits. Lauren Mara went 2-for-3 with a triple, and Raquel Vara added an RBI triple in the victory.

The 'Roos plated one run in the first and another in the third, and after Potsdam got a run across in the fourth, Austin College responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to go ahead 4-1.

In the second game of the day against Wesleyan, the 'Roos fell behind 3-0 after the first inning before scoring twice in the second on a two-run double from Kylee Fowler to make it a 3-2 game. However, that's the last time the 'Roos would get on the board and Wesleyan would take advantage of seven Austin College errors to hand the 'Roos the six run loss.

Sophia Hernandez took the loss, surrendering four runs - only one earned - on seven hits in 3.0 innings of work. Fowler finished 1-for-3 with two RBI and Emily Low went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
