Austin College Softball Drops Two at Trinity

The Austin College softball team fell in both halves of its doubleheader against SCAC foe Trinity on Friday, falling 5-2 in game one and 3-2 in game two. The 'Roos are now 9-12 overall and 2-8 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play as they finish out the weekend series on Saturday against the Tigers.

In game one, Trinity got out to a 4-0 lead after three innings before the 'Roos got on the board with a run in the fourth to make it 4-1, but Trinity tacked on another run to make it 5-1 in the bottom half of the inning. Briana Hernandez hit a solo homer in the seventh to make it a 5-2 final. 

Hernandez went 2-for-2 and had two of the team's three hits in the game, while Sophia Hernandez took the loss after surrendering five runs, only one of which was earned, on seven hits in 6.0 innings of work.

In game two, the 'Roos took a 2-0 lead after scoring a run in the fourth and another in the fifth. Taylor Steelman scored on an error for the first run, and in the next inning Steelman doubled home Rachel Ramos. Trinity got on the board in the bottom of the fifth and tied things up in the sixth, and the Tigers would get a walk-off victory on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 3-2 final.

Steelman went 2-for-3 as the 'Roos collected just four hits in the game, while Victoria Herrera took the loss after surrendering three runs, only one earned, on 10 hits in 6.2 innings of work.
