'Roos Split with Augustana and Penn State Behrend
WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Austin College men's water polo team split its two games on Saturday on the campus of Washington & Jefferson, dropping a 12-6 game to Augustana before bouncing back with a 9-5 victory over Penn State Behrend to open up their MPSF East weekend. The 'Roos are now 4-5 overall on the year.
WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Austin College men's water polo team split its two games on Saturday on the campus of Washington & Jefferson, dropping a 12-6 game to Augustana before bouncing back with a 9-5 victory over Penn State Behrend to open up their MPSF East weekend. The 'Roos are now 4-5 overall on the year.
In the team's opening game against Augustana, the 'Roos found themselves trailing 4-1 after the opening quarter and 6-2 at halftime. Augustana's lead grew to 8-3 after three quarters, and after a goal by Gabriel Daniels to open the fourth and make it 8-4, two more goals for the Vikings pushed the deficit to 10-4 and Austin College was unable to get it under five the rest of the way.
Daniels and Jack Stack each tallied twice for Austin College, and Greyson Gaworecki and Sebastian Scheier each found the back of the cage once.
The 'Roos got out to a hot start in their second game of the day, taking a 4-0 lead after the first quarter against Penn State Behrend, and heading into halftime leading 6-3. Aidan Wade got the 'Roos on the board in the opening quarter and Nic Ruggiero made it 2-0, before Jack Stack tallied and Wade found the back of the net again. Wade tallied for the third time to open up the second quarter and make it 5-0 before PSU responded with two goals. Stack scored the last goal of the half for Austin College.
Austin College grew its lead to 8-3 after keeping PSB scoreless in the third quarter, holding on for the 9-5 victory. Wade scored three goals, Stack had two, and Ruggiero tallied twice for the 'Roos. Gaworecki and Scheier rounded out the scoring for the 'Roos with a goal apiece.
