LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Austin College men's water polo team finished their weekend trip to California with a 16-6 defeat at the hands of Occidental on Sunday, bringing the 'Roos to 3-4 overall on the year.
Oxy sprinted out to a 4-0 lead after the opening quarter, and the lead grew to 8-0 in the second period before Aidan Wade got the 'Roos on the scoreboard with 3:05 left before halftime. Jack Stack tallied just before the break to make it an 8-2 game.
Occidental scored three in a row to open the third quarter and extend their lead to 11-2, with Wade scoring again to break up that scoring run and cut it to an 11-3 game with 5:03 showing on the clock. However, Oxy scored twice more in the quarter to make it 13-3 heading into the final frame. Both teams scored three times in the fourth, with Joshua Nelms, Sebastian Scheier, and Carlos Camarena each finding the back of the cage for Austin College to make it a 16-6 final score.
