Men's Water Polo Falls to MIT and LIU
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Austin College men's water polo team opened up its 2024 season at the Bruno Invite on Saturday, falling 16-2 to MIT in the first game of the weekend and 17-7 to Long Island University in game two on Saturday. The 'Roos will wrap up the weekend event in Norton, Mass., on Sunday against Connecticut College and Wheaton (Mass.).

MIT took control early in the season opener, jumping on top 6-0 after the first quarter with Austin College getting on the board for the first time in the second on a tally by Adrian Halberg. The 'Roos found themselves trailing 10-1 at the half, and 12-2 after the third quarter, when Aidan Wade found the back of the cage for Austin College's second goal of the game. The Engineers tacked on four more goals in the final quarter to make it a 16-2 final score.
Against Long Island University, the 'Roos once again found themselves trailing after the opening quarter, as LIU out-scored Austin College 4-0 in the frame. The 'Roos got on the board with a pair of goals in the second to make it a 7-2 game at halftime, with Wade and Preston Fiala each tallying in the period. LIU used a 4-to-1 scoring quarter in the third to push the margin to 11-3, with Grayson Gaworecki finding the back of the cage for Austin College's lone goal of the period. The 'Roos poured in four goals in the fourth, but it wasn't enough to claw back into the game as LIU added six scores to make it a 17-7 final. Charlie Howe scored twice in the fourth and Halberg and Sebastian Scheier each scored once in the quarter.
