Men's Water Polo Falls to Cal Baptist and Pacific

DAVIS, Calif. - The Austin College men's water polo team fell to nationally ranked NCAA Division I opponents Cal Baptist and the University of the Pacific on Friday, dropping a 19-6 decision to Cal Baptist and a 20-4 contest to Pacific.

Against No. 19-ranked Cal Baptist, the 'Roos fell behind 2-0 early before a goal from Andrew Pope cut the margin in half midway through the first quarter. However, Cal Baptist would score the next four to make it 6-1 after one. Austin College was shut out in the second quarter, and would head into halftime trailing 11-1 before tallying three times in the third. With the score 16-4 heading into the fourth, the 'Roos would find the net twice more with Evan Cueva and Robert Griffin each scoring to make it a 19-6 final. Six different players tallied for Austin College, while Zachary Griffith made seven saves in goal.

In the second game of the day against No. 4-ranked Pacific, the 'Roos once again found themselves in a 6-1 hole after the first quarter and would trail 12-3 at halftime. Michael Colmenares tallied the first goal of the game for Austin College, and Alex Rodriguez and Griffin each scored in the second quarter. Nathan Butler would score the team's final goal in the third quarter, and Pacific would out-score Austin College 3-0 in the fourth to seal the game. Michael Marks made seven stops in net for Austin College in the loss.
