Sterling Topples Austin College Tennis
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's tennis teams dropped their home-opening matches against visiting Sterling College on Saturday afternoon, with the women falling 6-1 while the men were bested 7-0.
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's tennis teams dropped their home-opening matches against visiting Sterling College on Saturday afternoon, with the women falling 6-1 while the men were bested 7-0.
On the men's side, the 'Roos fell in doubles action as Trey Salyer and Patrick Fenner were defeated 6-2 on line one, while Cruz Rocha and Joel Colunga dropped a 6-0 match on line two. Line three went to Sterling by default. Salyer dropped his line one match in singles competition 3-6, 0-6, and Fenner lost his flight two contest 0-6, 1-6. Rocha and Colunga each fell by scores of 0-6, 0-6 on lines three and four, respectively.
The Austin College women picked up a singles win from Karsyn Clouse, who earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory on line four, while Bailey Standokes lost her line one match 3-6, 2-6, and Olivia Sanchez battled but ultimately fell 6-8, 0-6 on line two.
Natalie Valle was defeated 3-6, 0-6 on line three, Emma Davidson was downed 7-5, 0-6, and Lauren Hofeldt dropped a 2-6, 1-6 flight six match to wrap up singles action. Sanchez and Valle were topped 6-3 on line one in doubles play, while Standokes and Davidson lost 2-6 on line two and Clouse and Hofeldt came up just short on line three, falling 6-7.
