'Roo Tennis Drops Season Opener

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's tennis teams fell by scores of 9-0 to visiting Texas A&M-Texarkana in their season opening matches on Saturday afternoon at the Jordan Family Courts at the Russell Tennis Center.

On the men's side, the 'Roos dropped each of their doubles competitions by scores of 8-1 with Tate Nelson and Trey Salyer playing on line one, while Luke Henley and Jay Carrillo competed at line two and Mark Lobdell and Matthew Fuhr were in action at flight three.

Nelson was bested 3-6, 3-6 playing line one singles, and Henley dropped a 0-6, 2-6 decision on line two. Salyer competed at flight three singles, falling 0-6, 1-6, and Carrillo was defeated 2-6, 0-6 at line four. Fuhr and Lobdell rounded out the team's singles matches on the men's side, with Fuhr falling 2-6, 2-6 on line five and Lobdell dropping a 0-6, 1-6 decision on line six.

For the women, Maya Leisey and Sierra Thomas fell 8-0 at line one doubles, and Karina Alvarez and Tara Tran also dropped an 8-0 decision on line two. Bailey Standokes and Abigail Le battled on line three but came up short, falling 8-4.

Leisey, Thomas, and Tran were each defeated 0-6, 0-6 competing at lines one through three, respectively, and Standokes fell 1-6, 4-6 at line four. Alvarez and Cynthia Zapata played at lines five and six, with each player falling by scores of 0-6, 0-6 in their matches.
