Ybarra Named Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach

SHERMAN, Texas - Syvoney Ybarra has been named the new head coach of the Austin College men's and women's tennis programs, director of athletics David Norman has announced. Ybarra most recently served as a graduate assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs at East Texas Baptist University.

"We're excited to welcome Syvoney to the Austin College family," said Norman. "She brings with her a strong knowledge of tennis in Texas, and understands what it takes to excel as a student-athlete at the Division III level. Along with her experience coaching in the American Southwest Conference, Syvoney was a standout competitor at ETBU. We look forward to the way she will mentor our student-athletes to success both on the court and in the classroom."

Ybarra is a 2021 graduate of East Texas Baptist, where she earned All-ASC East Division honors and served as a team captain. She earned her master's degree in Strategic Communication from ETBU in 2022, and served as an assistant coach during her graduate year. While working with both the men's and women's programs at East Texas Baptist, Ybarra planned practices and handled much of the program's recruiting efforts, in addition to aiding in travel preparation and coordinating the academic component for all of the team's student-athletes.

"I am very excited for the opportunity Austin College has given me," said Ybarra. "I'm looking forward to adding to and continuing to build a strong, competitive program. I would also like to thank David Norman and the Austin College staff for welcoming me with open arms and can't wait to get to work. Go 'Roos!"

Ybarra, a native of San Antonio, was a nationally-ranked doubles player in the NJCAA at Jacksonville College prior to her time at East Texas Baptist. In addition to working as an assistant at ETBU last season, she has also served as an instructor at Texas A&M's Aggie Tennis Camp.
