'Roo Women Top LeTourneau, Men Fall to Jackets

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's tennis team coasted to an 8-1 victory against LeTourneau on Saturday, while the men were edged by a 5-4 margin in their match with the Yellowjackets at the Jackson Family Courts. The women are now 3-1 on the year, while the men fall to 0-3.

The women swept their three doubles matches to open the day, with the team of Melody Duong and Diana Carvajalino dominant at line one with an 8-0 victory while Katie Seibert and Georgia Moore picked up an 8-1 win playing line two. The 'Roos also got a line three victory from the pairing of Gigi Francis and Phoebe Shapard, who earned an 8-1 win.

Duong dropped her line one singles match 6-0, 3-6, 8-10 but that would be the only blemish on the day for the women, with Carvajalino picking up a 6-0, 6-1 line two victory and Moore winning 6-1, 6-3 in the number three singles match. Seibert cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 line four win, Francis won 6-2, 6-3 at line five, and Joanna Leitch got a 6-3, 6-4 win playing in the number six slot.

Brett O'Brien and Preston Spivey earned an 8-4 win playing line one doubles for the 'Roo men, but Austin College would drop its other two doubles competitions to head to singles action in a 2-1 hole. Calum Robe and Tate Nelson came up just short at line two, falling 6-8, while Travis Fortune and Andres Padilla dropped an 8-3 decision at line three.

O'Brien picked up a big line one singles victory, coming out on top 6-4, 6-4, and Padilla earned a hardfought line two win of 2-6, 7-6, 6-3. Robe fell 4-6, 4-6 at line three, but Spivey earned a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 win at line four to give the team its fourth win of the day. However, Fortune would fall at line five by scores of 4-6, 3-6, and Nelson dropped line six 6-2, 5-7, 3-6 as LeTourneau managed to pull out the team victory.
