
Austin College Battles Through To 6-3 Victory Over Concordia
Padilla comes up large with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win at line 1
AUSTIN, Tex. - The Men's Tennis Team of Austin College came up huge in a 6-3 win over the Tornados of Concordia University.
Calum Robe and Preston Spivey returned to form with an 8-1 victory at line 3 to draw the first point for AC. Erik Meendsen and Josh Granberry took the second line 8-3 and Siddharth Kortikere teamed with Andres Padilla for a big line 1 victory.
The 3-0 lead going into singles competition would prove useful as the Tornados and Kangaroos split the singles. Padilla defeated Hoanh Le at line 1 for the 5-0 clinch 7-6 (4), 6-4 in arguably his best performance of the year. Erik Meendsen stretched the lead to 4 with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 performance from the senior.
From there, the 'Roos would play 3 super-tiebreakers, with two going "extra-innings." Rahman would fall 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) at line 3, but Preston Spivey would take line 4 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (12-10). Bryan Walmsley fell at Line 6 6-2, 6-4, and Travis Fortune dropped an incredibly close line 5 match, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (15-13).
AC travels to Austin Tennis Academy on Sunday, 3/25 to play Colby College in Austin, Texas. The match is scheduled for 12:00pm.
