Men's Tennis Performs Well in UT-Dallas Invitational

RICHARDSON, Tex. - The Austin College Men's Tennis Team wrapped up their 3-day weekend with several critical doubles victories going into their finals week of preparation prior to the ITA Division III Southwest Regional Championships.

Friday was a tremendous success for the Kangaroos, as Austin College swept the doubles competition against the University of Texas at Dallas.  Calum Robe collected his first doubles victory of his collegiate career as he partnered with and Erik Meendsen for their first win of the fall 6-2, 6-3 over Brown & Petluru.  Kenneth Hardy & Siddharth Kortikere collected their first win of year two as partners, but in a tough, third-set battle versus Eric Chen and Ashwin Vaithianathan 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (5).

Saturday saw Andres Padilla collect his second singles victory of his career in straight sets over The University of the Southwest's Andrew Alfaro 6-3, 7-6 (5), and Calum Robe notching his first victory as a Kangaroo in a third-set super tiebreaker 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8) over Stanislav Smirnov.

The highlight of Sunday was once again the doubles play as 4 out of 5 'Roo tandems were victorious over the University of the Southwest.  Will Crouch and Bryan Walmsley fought back from down one set to win 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (4) over Hernandez and Vasquez (USW), while Pieter Jon Cabato and Josh Granberry remained unblemished through three matches with their 6-1, 6-1 victory over Rua & Quintana.

In singles competition against UT-Dallas, Erik Meendsen picked up the first singles victory of his senior year over Ryan Morton 7-6(4), 7-5, Preston Spivey picked up the first singles victory of his career over Rodney Brown 6-2, 6-4, and Kenneth Hardy had the match of the day over Mario Jelev 7-5, 7-5.  Josh Granberry played a close match against Alberto Hernandez of UT-Dallas, but fell 6-2, 7-6 (0).
