Men's Tennis Victorious Over Colorado College 6-3
Doubles Sweep proves to be difference maker over Tigers
SAN ANTONIO, Tex. - The Men's Tennis Team of Austin College rectified a soul-crushing defeat from last year's SCAC Championships with their 6-3 victory over the Tigers of Colorado College.
Almost 1 year ago to the day, the Kangaroos dropped a 6 hour, 30 minute thriller 5-4 to the Tigers. Today, their effort earned them the inside track on the 3rd-seed in the Tournament after a doubles sweep took all the momentum away from their opponents.
Preston Glasscock and Pieter Cabato struck first at Line 3, winning a quick 8-2 result. Lines 1 and 2 finished almost simultaneously, with Erik Meendsen/Josh Granberry winning 8-6 at Line 2 and Kenneth Hardy/Siddharth Kortikere returning to form with a 9-7 win at Line 1.
A 3-0 lead is nearly insurmountable in collegiate tennis, but the Tigers clearly did not get the message; fighting hard for wins at Lines 1, 3, and 5. But Hardy put the 'Roos up 4-1 with his straight-set victory at Line 2, Kortikere earned every bit of a tough 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) decision at Line 4, and Cabato put the cherry on top with a 4 & 2 win at Line 6.
Austin College returns to the courts tomorrow in Seguin, Texas against Texas Lutheran University at 9am.
