Kangaroo Tennis Defeated 8-1 By #34 Southwestern Men
West Region #8 sweeps doubles vs. #19 Kangaroos; Cabato saves shutout in 3-set thriller
GEORGETOWN, Tex. – The Austin College Men's Tennis Team fell to 9-4 (1-1) on the year at the hands of the #34 Southwestern University Pirates (#8 in the West Region).
The 'Roos fought hard in doubles, with Kenneth Hardy and Siddharth Kortikere falling 8-6 to the #5 team in the West Region, Snovely/Gideon.
With the match score at 2-0 in favor of Southwestern, Pieter Jon Cabato and Preston Glasscock entered into a pivotal tiebreak to narrow the gap, but the Pirates prevailed 9-8 (8-6) to complete the sweep.
Singles competition was hard-fought from Austin College, but Southwestern made quick work of the two matches needed to clinch at Lines 1 and 2, followed by straight-set victories at 3, 4, & 5.
Cabato was the lone bright spot for the Kangaroos, as the Freshman fought hard for Austin College to split sets with his Line 6 adversary and force a super-tiebreaker for the final point of the match. Cabato did not disappoint, winning 1-6, 6-2, 10-8.
Austin College returns to the courts on Saturday, April 8th at 11AM vs. Schreiner University in Kerrville, TX.
