Men's Tennis Rolls 8-1 Over YellowJackets
'Roos sweep singles 6-0 and take all 12 sets vs. Howard Payne
SHERMAN, Tex. - The Austin College Men's Tennis Team moved to 4-2 (1-0) on the season after a decisive 8-1 victory over the YellowJackets of Howard Payne University.
Josh Granberry and Erik Meendsen were dominant at Line 2 Doubles with Jeff Kubena and Travis Fortune striking first blood with a "bagel" 8-0.
Preston Glasscock and Pieter Jon Cabato could not find their rhythm in their first match at Line 1 Doubles, falling behind two breaks of serve early in the match. A late surge to close the deficit to 1-game would close up as the Howard Payne tandem outplayed the 'Roo duo.
But the Kangaroos would take their 2-1 lead and run away with it in singles competition. Cabato struck first with Safe Rahman soon to follow 6-1, 6-1 on both courts.
Meendsen would clinch the victory with a 6-2, 6-1 win at Line 2 singles, and Granberry would take Line 1 6-3, 6-3.
Travis Fortune stayed undefeated in singles on the year 6-0, 6-1 at Line 5, and Will Crouch debuted with a victory at Line 6 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory himself.
Austin College will compete tomorrow morning, February 25th, at 9:00AM against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at the Elizabeth Russell Tennis Center.
