Hardy & Granberry Make Semis of A-Consolation at ITA's

TYLER, Tex. - It was another historic day for the Austin College Men's Tennis Team at ITA Regionals on Sunday, as two Kangaroos broke through to the semi finals of A-Consolation for the first time since at least 2009 in Austin College Tennis History.

Kenneth Hardy would dismantle his opponent from McMurry 6-1, 6-1 in the Round of 16, and dispatch of his Quarterfinal opponent from Texas Lutheran 6-3, 6-0.

In the other half of the draw, Josh Granberry would land one of the best victories of his career over a talented freshman from UT-Tyler 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).

Meanwhile, Preston Glasscock would extend his first stint in A-Draw with a win over a solid LeTourneau opponent in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7).

Glasscock and Granberry would have the unique and distinct pleasure that most teams never get to experience in playing their teammate in a late round of the tournament.  Granberry would win 6-2, 6-0, but the Kangaroo's Men's Tennis Team would win even bigger in the process.

When the first point began in their match, that became the first time that two Austin College Teammates have ever played against each other in the A-Draw at the ITA Divsion III Regional Championships.

Kortikere would fall to the 3rd-seeded player from Southwestern in straight sets, but competed well against one of the top players in the tournament and in the Southwest region.

Rahman opened the day of competition with a victory over Trinity in B-Consolation 6-4, 6-4, but fell to a Hardin-Simmons opponent that played the very best match he could in a competitive 7-6, 6-3 defeat.

Kubena, Morgan, and Oxenreiter all fell in their semi-final opportunities in the Orange, White, and Blue draws after finishing 6-0 yesterday, but Kubena and Oxenreiter would go down in three-setters, Oxenreiters opponent would win his final, and both Kubena and Morgan's opponents would fall competitively in their final matches.

Finally, Travis Fortune collected two huge singles wins in C-Consolation to stay alive until Day 3 of competition.  He defeated Vose of Hardin Simmons 6-3, 6-1 and then a starter from TLU's 2015-16 lineup 6-3, 7-5 in the Quarterfinals.

Fortune then teamed up again with Oxenreiter in the semi-finals of C-Doubles and picked up his third victory of the day over conference opponent Schreiner 8-4 before falling in the finals to UT-Tyler 8-3.

Hardy and Granberry begin their A-Consolation Semi-Finals tomorrow at 8:00am while Fortune will expect to go on between 9 and 10am in his C-Consolation Semis.
