Kangaroos Sweep Ozarks Netters 9-0; Move to 4-4
Decisive victory moves Austin College back to .500 going into second-half of the season
CONWAY, Ark. - After defeating Hendrix 8-1 earlier in the day, the Austin College Men's Tennis Team squared off against an opponent they had not faced in several season; the University of the Ozarks Eagles.
The 'Roos would roll to a decisive victory over the Eagles, starting with a sweep in doubles; the second of the season against a Division III opponent. Granberry/Ambulo would find themselves with a 7-3 lead, but two breaks of serve by the Eagles would put the Line 1 tandem in a precarious situation. AC would close out the match with a break over Organ/Murray 8-5.
Singles play would finish as a second sweep for the Kangaroos that day, with only 1 match going to a third set. Cedric Ambulo, fresh off of his stellar Line 1 singles performance from earlier that morning, would drop the first set to Jacob Organ 2-6. Ambulo's baseline consistency would vastly improve in the second set, setting up his aggressive net game for a 6-3 victory going into a super tiebreaker for the third set.
After losing 7 of the first 8 points, Cedric would claw his way back, winning 11 out of the next 13 points, including the final three to win the match 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (12-10).
Josh Granberry would get his first career Line 2 singles victory 6-2, 6-3, and no Kangaroo singles player on Lines 3-6 would lose more than three games in their match en route to a 9-0 victory.
Daniel Oxenreiter and Jacob Morgan both made their singles debuts at Lines 5 & 6 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-2 respectively.
Austin College returns to the courts at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor following spring break on Saturday, March 19 at 11:00am.
