Men's Tennis Steamrolls Warriors 8-1
Doubles success continues as AC lead 2-1 after first half; swept all 6 singles matches
CONWAY, Ark. - On the road to start their spring break, the Men's Tennis Team revisted a common opponent from last year's campaign and avenged a 6-3 loss to the Hendrix College Warriors at home with a convincing 8-1 win.
Doubles play last year in Sherman went the way of the Warriors 3-0. But this year, the 'Roos were convinced to test their mettle against Hendrix and with wins from Ambulo/Granberry at Line 1 and Oxenreiter/Kubena at Line 3, claimed a 2-1 lead going into singles competition.
Will Crouch and Preston Glasscock put the Kangaroos up 4-1 with decisive victories at Lines 5 and 4. Josh Granberry clinched the decision for Austin College with a solid 6-3, 6-3 victory.
Erik Meendsen played lights-out tennis in the first set, then found himself in a fight for the second set against Garimella, prevailing 7-5 with mental toughnes and a consistent plan of attack.
Cedric Ambulo played some of the best tennis of his career against McVinney from Hendrix, winning 6-2, 6-2 against a tough opponent.
Jeff Kubena struggled to gain his footing in his first set, but found his stride in the second set, winning Line 6 and completing the singles sweep 7-5, 6-0.
Austin College returns to the courts later today as they face off against the University of the Ozarks on the campus of Hendrix College at 3:00pm.
