KERRVILLE, TX – The Schreiner University Mountaineers proved too much for the Austin College Kangaroos Men's Tennis Team today.
The 'Roos doubles contests continue to improve, but late breaks of serve cost AC on all three doubles courts as the Mountaineers came up with big returns and closed out the sweep.
Erik Meendsen continues to look for his first singles victory as a Kangaroo, and came very close today against Carrola from Schreiener. Meendsen took the first set against the senior Mountaineer 9-7 in the tiebreaker. But the veteran came back with big serves and big forehands to take the second set 6-2 to force a super-tiebreaker for the decision. In the end, it was Schreiner that would win 10-3, but Meendsen continues to prove his competitiveness in his first six matches of his collegiate career.
The task of preventing the shutout was passed to David Smith, and he did not disappoint. While the senior lost two tiebreakers 7-5, Smith had his opportunities to close out both sets and continues to develop his baseline-to-net transition game.
Austin College is back at home on Monday, March 30th at 6:00pm against Arizona Christian College.
