Men's Tennis Drops Conference Match at TLU
'Roos fall 8-1, but AC continues to improve on the doubles courts
SEGUIN, TX – Austin College Men's Tennis opened their weekend SCAC road trip today with their match against the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs.
Doubles play was as competitive as it has been all season for the 'Roos. Daniel Oxenreiter/David Smith were not able to find their stride, falling 8-1, but both Line 1 and Line 3 doubles matches went into "extra innings." A late break of serve cost Jeff Kubena/Jacob Morgan the set on court 3, and strong tiebreaker play from the Bulldogs completed the sweep with a 1st Doubles victory over Cedric Ambulo/Erik Meendsen.
AC was fired up for singles, but was unable to climb back from their 0-3 deficit against a tough TLU squad. However, Cedric Ambulo was able to clinch his first Line 1 singles victory of this rainy season with a solid match super-tiebreaker. Ambulo took the first set in textbook fashion capitalizing on breaks of serve, but Pack from TLU surged back with a 6-0 second set victory. Ambulo was able to regain his focus and take the tiebreaker 11-9 for the 'Roos only point on the day.
Austin College wraps up their conference road trip tomorrow in Kerrville, TX against Schreiner University at 11:30am.
