'Roo Swimming Closes Regular Season Strong
SHREVEPORT, La. - The Austin College men's and women's swim teams wrapped up the regular season with strong performances on the road at Centenary in a double dual that also featured the University of St. Thomas, with the women topping both the Ladies and Celts while the men defeated UST and narrowly fell to the Gents.
SHREVEPORT, La. - The Austin College men's and women's swim teams wrapped up the regular season with strong performances on the road at Centenary in a double dual that also featured the University of St. Thomas, with the women topping both the Ladies and Celts while the men defeated UST and narrowly fell to the Gents.
The women's swim team defeated Centenary 94-89 and the Celts 116-38, while the men bested UST 107-63 while falling 103-96 to the host school. Austin College will now focus its attention on the 2025 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in February.
The 'Roos got out to a strong start with the women's 200 medley relay team of Tatyana Arizmendi, Lexy Hulse, Joslyn Dimitri, and Sofia Guzman taking first with a time of 2:00.23, while the men took second in that event with a time of 1:45.13 from the team of Tim Smith, Colin Stewart, Alex Lai, and Kamil Murugan. Stewart added a second place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.34, and Arizmendi was a second place finisher on the women's side in the 200 individual medley, touching with a time of 2:29.91.
Smith earned second place points for the men in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.16, and Hulse and Murugan each took first in their respective 50 freestyle events, with Hulse swimming her sprint in a time of 26.88 while Murugan recorded a time of 23.37. Dimitri, Izzy Schultze, and Mikayla Arizmendi swept the top three spots in the women's 100 butterfly, with Dimitri taking first with a time of 1:07.00, and Lai took second in that event for the men with a time of 56.61.
Dimitri added a second place finish in the 500 freestyle for the women, coming in with a time of 5:59.09, and Theo Rogers also earned second place points in that event for the men with a time of 5:25.36, while Smith added a third place finish in that race. The men's team of Jonah Cowles, Josh Nelms, David Stanford, and Theo Rogers took second in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:40.61, and Tatyana Arizmendi was a first place finisher in the women's 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.59, while JonAustin Blaine finished with a time of 58.86 for the men, good for second place in that event.
Hulse was a second place performer in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.36 and Lai earned first place points in that event for the men, coming in with a time of 1:04.61. Both the men and women were winners in the final event of the day, the 400 free relay, with Dimitri, Tatyana Arizmendi, Guzman, and Hulse coming in with a time of 4:12.42, and Lai, Murugan, Stewart, and Smith scored with a time of 3:29.49 to wrap up the double dual.
