
'Roo Swimming Performs Well in Season Opener
CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - The Austin College men's and women's swim teams had a solid start to their seasons on Saturday afternoon against the University of the Ozarks and Hendrix College, coming away with multiple wins and top three finishes on both sides against the Eagles and Warriors.
CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - The Austin College men's and women's swim teams had a solid start to their seasons on Saturday afternoon against the University of the Ozarks and Hendrix College, coming away with multiple wins and top three finishes on both sides against the Eagles and Warriors.
The 'Roo men scored 161 points against Ozarks and 90 against Hendrix, while the women scored 110 against the Eagles and 106 against the Warriors. The men's 200 medley relay team of JonAustin Blaine, Theo Rogers, Alex Lai, and Kamil Murugan earned an early first place finish with a time of 1:41.46, and Joslyn Dimitri got the women's team its first win of the day in the 1000 freestyle, touching with a time of 12:17.47, while Cassidee Levine took second in that same event with a time of 12:54.15.
Tim Smith took third in the 1000 free on the men's side, coming in with a time of 11:28.47, and Alex Lai earned a second place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.88. Lola Barcus-Schafer was a second place finisher in that same event on the women's side, touching with a time of 2:13.10, and added another second place performance in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:20.56. Blaine also earned second in the 100 backstroke for the 'Roo men, coming in with a time of 59.52, while the women earned a first place finish in the 100 back with a 1:04.01 time from Tatyana Arizmendi.
Rogers picked up a win in the 100 breaststroke for the 'Roo men, touching with a time of 1:04.34, and Murugan earned first place points in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.49. Murugan tacked on another first place finish in the 100 free, coming in with a time of 50.26, while Mikayla Arizmendi finished first in the women's 500 freestyle with a time of 6:15.04.
Smith gave Austin College a first place finish in the 400 individual medley, coming in at 4:47.32, and Lai was second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:24.87. Blaine had a second place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:10.31, and Dimitri was second in the 100 butterfly, touching with a time of 1:07.46.
