'Roos Swim Strong Against McMurry

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's swimming teams got some strong performances in their home meet against McMurry on Saturday, but the men ended up falling 151-85 while the women were bested 127-80.

The women got off to a strong start with a victory in the 200 medley relay, as the team of Liberty Chanin, Sammi Thiele, Becca Tobias, and Lauren Olivier came in with a time of 2:01.86 in the event, topping McMurry by more than 17 seconds. The 'Roo men also won that event, as JonAustin Blaine, Alex Lai, David Stanford, and Gabriel Fulton finished with a time of 1:51.28.

Tim Smith brought home a first place finish in the 1000 freestyle, touching with a time of 11:40.35, and Blaine added a win for the men in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.81. On the women's side, Thiele took first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:11.31, and added another win in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.65. 

Blaine added to his strong day with a win in the 200 backstroke, coming in with a time of 2:15.19, and Tobias added another win for the women with a time of 1:06.16 in the 100 butterfly. Lai took first in that event on the men's side, touching with a time of 55.65. The 'Roo women wrapped up the competition with a victory in the 200 free relay, as Tobias, Olivier, Chanin, and Thiele came in with a time of 1:46.91 to claim the win.
