Nguyen Makes History on Day Three of SCAC Championship Meet

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Austin College men's swimmer Ethan Nguyen made history in more ways than one on Friday at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, breaking the SCAC record in the 100 breaststroke in the morning prelims and later becoming just the second 'Roo men's swimmer to capture an individual championship in the same event in the evening's finals.

It was a strong day all around for both the 'Roo men and women, first with Nguyen's record-setting 55.60 in the prelims, making him the first male or female swimmer in program history to own a SCAC swimming record. Nguyen followed up that performance with a time of 55.88 to take first place in the event in the evening session to capture the individual title. Nguyen joins former men's swimmer Chris Brown and former women's swimmer Lauren Wheeler as the only 'Roo swimmers to ever earn an individual SCAC title.

Nguyen and David Mowles, Zachary Griffith, and Cade Griffith later earned their second All-Conference finish of the meet in the 400 medley relay, coming in with a time of 3:31.62 to set a new program record and take third place. The 'Roos also got a strong showing from Colton Baker, who placed fourth in the 1-meter diving event.

On the women's side, the 'Roos got sixth place points from Chloe Hunt in the 200 freestyle, while Becca Tobias was seventh in the 400 individual medley and the team of Hunt, Tobas, Jade Kemp, and Sophie Garriga placed fifth in the 400 medley relay. The quartet came in with a time of 4:22.08 in the event.

The men head into the final day of competition in fourth place, while the women currently sit in fifth.
