'Roo Men's Swimming Tops Centenary; Women Edged by Ladies

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Austin College men's swimming and diving team had a strong finish to the regular season, topping Centenary 122-72 while the women came up just short, swimming well but falling 92-82.

The win for the men marks the first time the 'Roos have topped the Gents in a dual meet since Centenary became an NCAA Division III program, and the 'Roos got off to a fast start in the win behind a 200 medley relay win for Ethan Miles, Ethan Nguyen, Zachary Griffith, and Cade Griffith. The women also picked up a victory in the 200 medley relay, with Chloe Hunt, Becca Tobias, Zuni Rubio, and Sophie Garriga finishing with a time of 2:04.69.

David Mowles kept the momentum going for the men with a win in the 1000 yard freestyle, and Cade Griffith won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:50.84. The women also got early first place finishes with Liberty Chanin getting first place points in the 1000 freestyle, while Garriga won the 50 freestyle. Nguyen added a first place finish for the men with a time of 1:59.87 in the 200 individual medley, and Mowles got another first place finish with a time of 1:57.08 in the 200 butterfly. The 'Roos swept the men's and women's 100 freestyle events, with Lula Wallace taking first on the women's side while Cade Griffith took first for the men.

Chanin added another win for the women in the 500 freestyle, coming in with a time of 5:42.07, and Nguyen placed first for the men in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.15. The men's team closed out the meet with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay, with the team of Zachary Griffith, Charles Smith, Colton Baker, and Mowles touching in a time of 1:31.39.
