'Roos Dominate McMurry in Season-Opening Meet

ABILENE, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's swimming and diving teams put on dominant performances at McMurry in the team's season-opening meet, with the men winning 147-62 while the women came out on top 122-65.

Ethan Nguyen made Austin College history in his first collegiate meet, breaking the program's record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.68, making him the first 'Roo to ever swim the event in under a minute. Overall, the men took first in all but two events, and the women also secured first place finishes in all but two events.

David Mowles had a big day in the pool for the 'Roo men, winning the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.96 and the 200 free with a time of 1:49.03, and Nguyen added a first place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:03.54. Max Saenz was another multiple winner at the meet, taking first in the 50 free with a time of 22.71 and the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.42.

The 'Roos swept the relay events on the men's side, while Colton Baker scored first place points in the 1-meter diving event. 

The women's team also saw several outstanding performances from newcomers, with both Liberty Chanin and Becca Tobias touching first in multiple events. Chanin placed first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:29.87 and the 500 free with a time of 5:39.76, and Tobias took first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:05.76 and the 200 IM with a time of 2:30.28. Chloe Hunt was another 'Roo to place first in multple events, coming in with a time of 2:09.48 to win the 200 free and adding a win in the 100 free with a time of 58.68. Like the men, the women also swept the relay events.
