More Records Fall as 'Roo Swimming Finishes Strong at SCAC Championship

The Austin College men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up an outstanding week at the 2017 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Tournament, with numerous program records falling for both teams throughout the course of the event.

Both teams placed fifth at the event, with the men scoring 299 points while the women scored 285. On the men's side, Collin Vu and Chris Brown set multiple records through both prelims and finals races. On Thursday, Vu broke the program record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.41 before finishing eighth in the finals with a time of 21.55, in a race where the first and eight place finishers were separated by just six tenths of a second.

Brown broke the 200 individual medley record in prelims on Thursday as well, coming in with a time of 1:59.29 before finishing sixth in the finals with a time of of 1:59.63. Chris Brown also set the new program record in the 100 backstroke twice, first in the prelims with a time of 52.38 and then breaking his own record in the finals, taking fourth with a time of 51.73.

Vu added another record of his own, breaking the 100 butterfly record with a time of 52.41, and Tyler Brown took eight place in teh 100 breast stroke with a record-breaking time of 1:00.89. The men's 400 medley relay team also broke the program record with a time of 3:35.61, good for a fifth place finish.

The record breaking performances didn't stop there, however, as Chris Brown broke the 200 yard backstroke record in the prelims and then, again, broke his new record in the finals on his way to taking third place in the event. Brown's new record-setting mark was 1:54.03 in the finals. 

On the women's side, Sophie Garriga broke multiple records as well, while Bailey Clark placed eighth in the 200 breaststroke finals. Garriga set the new program record in the 400 individual medley in prelims with a time of 4:51.20, and broke another record in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:18.02, before finishing seventh in the finals with a time of 2:21.71.
