Late Goal Drops 'Roo Men

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team found itself all square with visiting Southwestern late in the second half, but the Pirates took the lead in the 69th minute and would go on to hand the 'Roos a 2-1 defeat on Friday night in Jerry Apple Stadium.

Southwestern struck first in the match, getting a goal from Luca Cipleu in the 10th minute of action off of an assist from Caleb Allen. Austin College got the equalizer in the 32nd minute, as Kyle Nimon tallied on an assist from Michael Valencia to make it 1-1, and that's how things would stand heading into halftime. The Pirates held a 6-2 shot advantage in the opening 45 minutes of play.

The game continued to be a defensive battle, with neither team reaching 10 shots in the match as they played through a downpour throughout the night. Each team managed just three shot attempts in the second half of play, but Southwestern would find the back of the net as Raghav Sharma tallied at the 68:15 mark to make it a 2-1 game, and Austin College was unable to even things up in the final 20 minutes of play.

With the loss, the 'Roos are now mathematically eliminated from the SCAC Tournament, which will be played next weekend at Apple Stadium. Connor Tullis made two saves in the loss for Austin College.
