'Roo Men Fall to Trinity

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision against SCAC-leading Trinity University on Sunday, bringing the 'Roos to 2-8-1 overall and 1-2 in conference play on the year.

It was a defensive battle throughout the first half, with Trinity getting on the board just seconds before the buzzer sounded. The Tigers managed to put one in the back of the net when Michael Somerville chipped on in from the left wing, just beating the final horn and scoring with two seconds left in the opening frame. Pieter Blank had the assist on the score.

The Tigers doubled their lead in the 63rd minute of action when Fraser Burns scored on a feed from Hunter Cain, and Cain would add a goal of his own four minutes later to make it a 3-0 game. Austin College got on the board in the 80th minute of action, when Louis Catchpole headed home a cross from Daniel Gomez to make it a 3-1 contest. That's as close as things would get, though, as the Tigers managed to keep the 'Roos at bay the rest of the match.

Trinity held a 25-to-12 shot advantage in the game, though Austin College out-shot the Tigers 8-to-7 in the second half. Connor Tullis made 10 saves in the defeat for Austin College.
