'Roo Men Fall Late to Howard Payne

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team rallied back from two goals down late in the second half, but Howard Payne found the net in the 84th minute to give the Jackets a 3-2 win over the 'Roos on Tuesday evening. The 'Roos are now 1-2 overall on the year.

Howard Payne got on the board early, when Alexander Paz headed one home just six minutes into the game to make it 1-0. The Jackets would go on top 2-0 in the 25th minute of action as Gael Cancino punched home a goal, and that's how things would stand heading into halftime. The score remained 2-0 until the 67th minute, when Cesar Escobar tallied his third goal in as many games to cut the deficit in half.

Austin College squared things up at the 76 minute mark, as the 'Roos managed to draw a penalty kick and Louis Catchpole found the back of the net to make it a 2-2 game. However, Paz would score for the second time in the game eight minutes later to put the Jackets back on top, and the 'Roos were unable to equalize despite several chances in the closing moments of the match.

Connor Tullis made three saves for Austin College, while Eduardo Flores had five stops for Howard Payne. The 'Roos are back in action on Friday evening, as they host Colorado College at 7:00 p.m.
