Spurlock Named SCAC Man of the Year Finalist
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Austin College's Xander Spurlock has been named one of five finalists for the 2021-22 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Man of the Year Award, the league office has announced.
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Austin College's Xander Spurlock has been named one of five finalists for the 2021-22 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Man of the Year Award, the league office has announced.
The award recognizes the conference's senior male student-athlete who has best distinguished himself throughout his collegiate career in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence and service and leadership. The award began in 2013, and past winners include former Austin College football player Madison Ross.
Spurlock, a men's soccer player from Frisco who graduated this past spring with a perfect 4.0 grade-point-average, was a four-year starter for the 'Roos and served as a team captain for three of those seasons. Spurlock majored in economics and had a minor in exercise and sports science, and was a four-time member of the SCAC Academic Honor Roll. He was a two-time All-SCAC performer, and was twice named CoSIDA Academic All-District in addition to being named to the Austin College Dean's List each semester during his time in Sherman.
Spurlock was a member of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society and the Omicron Delta Epsilon Honor Society, and while playing for the 'Roos earned the Clayton Hustle Award, the Sig Lawson Award, and as twice named the team's most valuable player. In addition to his successes on the field and in the classroom, was a volunteer with the Humane Society of Boulder Valley and participated in bone marrow drives in 2019 and 2020.
The winner of the 2021-22 SCAC Man of the Year will be selected and announced in July.
