Hendrix Tops 'Roo Men's Soccer

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team fell 2-1 to visiting Hendrix College on Sunday, as the Warriors scored once in each half and a late rally by the 'Roos came up short. Austin College is now 0-5 on the season.

The 'Roos dominated play in the early going, keeping the ball in the attacking end for much of the first 20 minutes. However, midway through the half the momentum began to shift, leading to Hendrix breaking through with a goal by Jake Nelson, finishing off of a cross from Derian Robbins in the 35th minute to make it a 1-0 game. That's how things would stand through halftime, and once again Austin College opened the second half controlling possession and going on the attack.

The Warriors used a free kick to set up their second goal of the day to make it 2-0, however, with a ball into the box coming down to Nelson, who fed it across the goal mouth to Zack Roberts. Roberts headed it home from point blank to put the 'Roos in a two goal hole. Austin College got on the board late when Diego Rodriguez ripped a shot into the upper right corner from better than 25 yards out, and the 'Roos won a corner kick in the closing seconds but were unable to find the equalizer.

Austin College out-shot Hendrix 12-6 in the game, including 8-2 in the second half, and had nine corner kicks compared to three for the Warriors. Connor Tullis made one save for Austin College and James Leone stopped five shots for the Warriors.
